What does it take to become a favorite climb? As with most things in life, the more challenging an endeavor is, the more rewarding it is when you successfully complete the challenge. For me, climbing is no different. The harder a mountain makes me work for the summit, the more I enjoy the experience. Most of my favorite climbs are climbs that in some way made me push beyond what I thought possible and out of my comfort zone. Other peaks on my favorite lists might not be that technically difficult, but were set in an extremely beautiful environment and made the climb enjoyable and memorable.

Rex's Favorite Climbs

Climb Summary

Gannett Peak

It took a long time to knock the Grand Teton off the top of my favorite list, but the highest peak in Wyoming and the Wind Rivers is truly awesome.

The Grand Teton

11 pitches of technical climbing on the Matterhorn of the United States. What's not to love?

Mt. Hood

First glacier climb on this giant of the Northern Cascades.

Arapaho Peaks Traverse / Skywalker Couloir

Steep snow climb followed by a fun ridge traverse. Doesn't get much better than this.

Capitol Peak

Arguably the hardest of all Colorado's 14ers. A very beautiful mountain and a fun route.

Mt. Whitney, CA

Highest mountain in the lower 48 states and located in the heart of the beautiful Sierra Nevadas.

Chicago Basin 14ers

Train ride, great people, great San Juan peaks, 3 tough 14ers in 1 day, very awesome.

Torreys Peak via the Dead Dog Couloir

An awesome snow climb and an elegant line.

Grays Peak via the Lost Rat Couloir

A great introductory snow climb giving Grays Peak an alpine feel.

Wilson Group 14ers

The San Juans toughest 14ers and also our last 14ers to be climbed in our quest.

Wetterhorn Peak

Fun class 3 14er.

Longs Peak

Despite the crowds, the Keyhole Route is a very fun scramble.

Mitchell Peak

A peak named for the "Lords of the Winds" Finis Mitchell and the southern guardian of the Cirque of The Towers.

The Cirque of The Towers

With peaks such as Pingora, Wolf's Head, and Warbonnet, once you've been there, you'll understand.

Mt. Lindsey

A tribute climb for a fallen friend with a great bunch of people.

Crestone Peak

Awesome 14er in the heart of the beautiful Sangre De Cristos.

Crestone Needle

One of the most beautiful 14ers and a very fun scramble to the summit.

Snowmass Mountain

A very beautiful mountain and one of the best areas for wildflowers I've ever seen.
